Wilde Paarde Kloof is situated in one of the most picturesqe areas deep in the heart of the Breede River Valley.  All our guest facilities are located on a working farm nestled in the wild and majestic setting of the Langeberg Mountains. Surrounded by the peace and solitude of a farm that shares its borders with the wilderness, you are within easy driving distance to the five beautiful towns in the region – Ashton 3.7km, Montagu 15km, Robertson 22km, Bonnievale 25km, and McGregor 40km. In this beautiful wine valley, Farmer Redbeard works on his land. He has an appreciation for the balance in nature and is committed to working in harmony with it. His self sustaining fruit, wine and honey farm is a hidden treasure of wildlife, Cape fynbos, shimmering fruit orchards and vineyards surrounded by mountains. His attention to detail ensures that he produces quality fruit, handcrafted wines and honey with a unique and distinct aroma, flavour and character.

As an action packed holiday on this traditional South African fruit and grape farm, guests can enjoy the adventures and seasons of farming and living, harvesting of the fruit; making of one’s own preserves, grappa and wine; beekeeping, hiking, swimming, mountain biking, fun tractor rides into the mountain followed by a bushbraai or relaxing and enjoying the tranquility.

The story of Wilde Paarde Kloof and Farmer Redbeard begins in the 1700’s when a host of free-burghers departed the Cape of Good Hope in search of a better life. Ancestors of the present day owners, the van Zyl family saw their dreams fulfilled when they first set eyes upon the beautiful valley that came to be known as Wilde Paarde Kloof. Today the descendants of these brave and adventurous pioneers work diligently to preserve and honour this beautiful heritage that has been passed down through many generations.

In 2006, Louré and Johanna van Zyl renovated the original house, Die Ou Huis. Staying true to the house’s heritage during the renovation, Die Ou Huis has added a lovely guest farm component to the working farm that bears the valley’s name – Wilde Paarde Kloof.

2010 saw the birth of another addition to the guest farm experience with the creation of Farmer Redbeard. Son, Albertus van Zyl and his wife Patrizia celebrated their marriage at Die Ou Huis and came to live and work on the farm. Together they have created unique and complementary accommodations along with farm life styled activities for guests to enjoy during their stay.Like us on Facebook
